A cantilever sliding gate crosses the entrance without a ground track across the driveway. The rail is fixed to the gate and runs over carriages beside the opening. These kits bring together matched running hardware for a gate you are making; they are not a finished gate or a motor kit.

The first choice is the clear opening and estimated weight of the finished gate, including its infill. Capacity changes with opening width: a system's largest advertised weight and largest advertised opening are not necessarily a valid pair. Compare the CAIS sizing table at your opening, then check the space needed for the complete gate to slide back. If you already have a gate and need one carriage or rail, see cantilever replacement hardware instead.

More about Cantilever gate hardware kits

Which cantilever kit suits my opening?

Our range includes conventional single-leaf CAIS systems and separate telescopic kits. This is the useful first comparison—not a ranking from “basic” to “best”. A larger system can support more weight at the same opening; a telescopic system solves a different layout problem.

Start with the system, then choose the exact opening, finish and rail sections
Current rangeWhen to consider itA verified example
ENZO / CAIS SA suitable conventional choice where the proposed opening and finished gate weight are comfortably within the S table. There is no quality advantage in paying for M just because it is larger. At a 4.2 m opening the CAIS S table allows a finished gate up to 425 kg. See the matching ENZO kit with one 6 m galvanised rail.
DEMO / CAIS MA conventional system to consider when the gate approaches or exceeds S capacity at its opening, or M is required by the design. At a 4.0 m opening the CAIS M table allows up to 500 kg. See the 4.0 m / 500 kg galvanised DEMO kit.
FERO / CAIS LIf the M range cannot carry the finished gate at your opening, check the CAIS L sizing table. The current FERO 6Z pack supplies two 6 m galvanised rail sections. For a proposed opening or gate longer than the supplied rail permits, ask us to specify the required complete rail and hardware package.
FOLLOW ME telescopicWhere a conventional gate's full slide-back space is difficult to provide, subject to the telescopic system's own layout. The FOLLOW ME M 8 m system has a separate CAIS drawing: at its 8 m table point the maximum gate weight is 650 kg and the stated backspace is 7.33 m. It is not interchangeable with a conventional kit.

Why can't I pick a kit from its maximum weight alone?

Imagine a 4.0 m clear opening and a proposed 450 kg finished moving gate. The CAIS S sizing table permits 400 kg at 4.0 m, so an ENZO/S kit is not the answer even though that family reaches 450 kg at a different opening. The CAIS M table permits 500 kg at 4.0 m, making the 4.0 m DEMO/M kit a candidate. You still need to confirm the gate's construction, full length, available slide-back, supports and site conditions before ordering. This is why we ask for the opening and finished weight together.

How much space does a cantilever gate need?

A cantilever gate needs a counterbalance section behind the part that closes the opening. The clear opening is therefore not the full gate length or the space it needs to slide back. The CAIS sizing tables show the counterbalance dimension alongside each opening and weight; the kit listing separately tells you the supplied rail length. Check the complete gate and its travel against your available side space. Avoid a universal “add 30%” rule or choosing from rail length alone. If the required runback is the problem, ask about a telescopic FOLLOW ME layout; its own drawing, gate sections and backspace must fit the site.

What is included—and what else will I need?

Metalines' cantilever hardware kits generally include the matched carriages, gate-mounted rail and end-of-travel components. They do not include a motor. Top guide brackets and rollers are normally chosen separately because the right arrangement depends on the gate and its posts. The gate frame, infill, supports, foundations, automation and site work are separate. The exact numbers of rails, carriages, receivers and fixings vary by product: for example, the ENZO 4.2 m galvanised kit linked above supplies one 6 m rail, while the other 4.2 m ENZO variant supplies two 3 m sections. The /1 and /2 suffix describes the number of rail sections, not a stronger or weaker grade.

For a physical gate-frame package, use cantilever gate frames and check its included running hardware before buying a second kit. For powered operation, see sliding gate automation; a motor does not replace the running gear or the physical stops.

Why do we rate CAIS cantilever hardware so highly?

We regard all three conventional CAIS ranges as premium-quality hardware: S, M and L describe what the system can carry at a given opening, not a climb in build quality. CAIS documents compatibility testing between its C-section rail and carriages, multi-riveted rail sections and precision-made carriage centres. Those are tangible reasons we are confident supplying a matched CAIS system, rather than asking you to mix similar-looking rails and carriages. The right kit is the one with adequate capacity, rail and carriage arrangement, and finish for your particular gate. If S comfortably meets the opening and finished weight, we would not recommend paying for M simply because it is larger. Raw and galvanised rail options exist; the finish of the gate frame and other components is a separate choice.

What are the trade-offs and the total cost?

A cantilever entrance has no ground track to cross, which can be useful where a driveway track is undesirable or difficult to install. In return, the gate needs counterbalance and slide-back space beside the opening, plus suitable support and a gate built for that arrangement. Where a sound, level base for ground track is available, a tracked sliding gate may be the simpler build. The displayed kit price is for the listed hardware, not a finished, fitted or motorised gate: allow separately for the gate, posts/foundations, top guidance, automation and installation as your design requires.

Need a size checked before you order?

Email Metalines the clear opening, estimated finished gate weight, proposed gate and infill, and the unobstructed space available for it to slide back. Tell us whether you are making a new gate, replacing a whole existing rail-and-carriage system, or considering a telescopic arrangement. We can help identify a suitable hardware package from those details; structural design, foundations and installation need assessment for the actual site.
