Should you choose an audio or video intercom?

An audio kit lets you speak to a visitor and release the gate if the system is connected for that. A video kit adds a picture through its supported app or monitor. For example, AES Opyn has a 4G option that uses a compatible SIM for internet access and app answering; AES also offers a wired-IP version. Check which version, keypad and monitor the particular listing supplies.

What does a SIM-based gate intercom need?

Check signal at the entrance and the mobile service the exact model uses. Some systems need voice calling or texts; 4G video needs mobile data. Look at the SIM supplied, if any, and any separate service or ongoing charges. The entrance panel still needs power and a suitable connection to the gate or door release.

Which options matter when comparing kits?

• Audio call or video through an app.
• Number of entrances, properties and people who should answer.
• Surface or flush mounting, keypad or other visitor access.
• Supported mobile network, SIM, coverage and any service charges.
• What the kit actually includes and how it connects to the gate.

For a BPT, Videx or AES model, use its full reference to compare these details. Older GSM-labelled products and current 4G versions do not necessarily use the same network or parts.

Would a wired intercom suit you better?

A wired bus or IP video intercom may still let you answer in an app, but it does not use a SIM at the gate in the same way as a 4G kit. Compare video intercom kits for those options, or audio intercom kits if you only need speech.
