Looking for a contact safety edge for an automatic gate? Choose a made-to-measure edge if you need a finished assembly, or explore self-assembly edges and profiles if you are replacing or building one from specified components. An edge responds to pressure; it is more than a length of rubber trim.

This wider range also shows related control and sensing equipment. If you already have an edge and need the electronics that connect it to the gate, see safety-edge controllers and wireless kits. For detection without contact, compare gate and barrier sensors.

More about Gate safety edges and contact profiles

Finished edge or parts to assemble one?

A finished edge and a length of contact profile are different purchases. For a made-to-measure edge, provide the finished length, mounting position and cable-exit position. If you are assembling or repairing an edge, check whether you also need an aluminium carrier, end caps, connection pieces or a specified termination. The contents vary by product, so compare the item listing with the assembly instructions.

Looking for a CAME or Nice safety edge?

If you have a CAME DFWN edge, keep its full reference and length: DFWN1500, DFWN1700, DFWN2000 and DFWN2500 are different choices in our self-assembly edge range. Check what else you need for the complete installation, such as the matching carrier, end pieces or connection parts. For an existing Nice edge, send us its full label and photographs of the profile and connection so we can help identify a suitable route; the brand alone does not identify a replacement.

What should you measure for a replacement?

Keep the full reference, including any profile suffix. Send a clear photograph of the edge cross-section, its mounting and the cable connection, together with the required dimensions. Tell us whether a measurement is for the profile, the carrier or the finished assembly. An ASO SENTIR 25.45 TT reference, for example, should not be shortened to 25.45 when identifying a replacement.

What connects the edge to the gate?

Check the sensing type and the gate controller's supported input. An 8k2 label describes an 8.2-kilohm circuit; it does not tell you which transmitter, receiver or evaluation unit is fitted. A wireless kit may supply the communication parts without the physical edge. Browse controllers and wireless kits when you need those parts.

How many edges does a gate need?

That depends on the moving gate and the hazards around it. A competent installer should assess where contact protection is needed, choose the edge and check how the complete system responds. HSE's powered-gate guidance explains why the installed system matters as much as the individual component. If a protective device has failed, have the gate assessed before using it again; do not bypass it to restore movement.

Need help identifying a part? Send us its reference and clear photographs of accessible labels. We can help identify equipment; Metalines does not carry out site safety assessments or installation.
